About Us

Welcome to the E.C. Scranton Memorial Library — Madison’s community resource since 1900.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life for all Madison residents by providing access to information, fostering lifelong educational and cultural learning, and cultivating relationships among our residents through the exchange of ideas.

Located in the heart of downtown Madison, the Scranton Library is a community center for life-long learning and exploration.  Along with our collection of books and audiovisual materials, we provide free computer access and Wi-Fi, early literacy, and discovery classes for children, programs, and volunteer opportunities for teens, cultural performances, and learning opportunities for adults, rotating art exhibits, and free meeting space for community organizations.

Our experienced library staff is ready to assist you with book recommendations, research and homework questions, learning to use your personal electronic device, job search help, acquiring multiple copies of books for your book group, and much more.

Your Scranton Library card also gives you free 24-hour access to our online databases such as Consumer Reports, Transparent Language Online, and ValueLine. You can also download free e-books, audiobooks, and digital magazines from anywhere, anytime.
