You know that you can check out books and movies, but did you also know that you can take home a laptop, chess set, iPad, spikeball game, binoculars, or a telescope? These items and many others are now available for check out. You can find the new Library of Things displayed on the main floor of the library or click a link below for a description.
Developing a Library of Things marks a natural evolution of the library’s existing lending model. In addition to expanding the type of formats, we’re offering our community, this collection of items also supports the “sharing economy” and our town’s sustainability efforts, as patrons sharing items means less waste. The collection also offers an opportunity to “try before you buy,” to save money and to test out something you might not have come across otherwise.
With this collection, the Scranton Library aims to offer the physical tools needed to support lifelong learning and creativity and provide new avenues for library users of all ages to interact and explore. In these ways, the collection supports the library’s mission to “provide access to information, foster lifelong educational and cultural learning, and cultivate relationships among our residents through the exchange of ideas.”
