Consider donating low cost basis stock instead of cash when donating to Scranton Library.
Why gifts of stock? Donating stocks can help reduce taxes more than just a cash contribution. Stock gifts allow you to take a charitable deduction for the stock’s fair market value on the day you transfer it to the Library. The donor never has to pay capital gains on the appreciated stock they donate.
What are the benefits of a stock donation?
- Deduct the current fair market value as a charitable donation.
- Donation & deduction are greater than if you sell shares and donate the after-tax cash proceeds.
- Reduce your taxes as the long-term capital gain is excluded from taxable income.
For more detailed information about Gifts of Stock, please consult a financial or tax advisor or an accountant that can help you determine the appropriateness for your tax planning.
When you are ready to send your gift of stock, please follow these stock gift instructions to help us credit your gift properly.
The Library is eligible for corporate matching gifts. Companies have different means of submitting matching gift information. The most common way is to simply ask your Human Resources department for a matching gift form. Once you complete the employee portion of the form, send it to us and we’ll do the rest!
Contributions are fully deductible under federal tax regulations. The E. C. Scranton Memorial Library is a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt organization, EIN# 06-0726490. For further information, please contact the Library Director at 203-245-7365 or email email@example.com.
