Stock Gifts:
Consider donating low-cost basis stock when donating to Scranton Library.
Why gifts of stock? Donating stocks can help reduce taxes more than just a cash contribution. Stock gifts allow you to take a charitable deduction for the stock’s fair market value on the day you transfer it to the Library. The donor never has to pay capital gains on the appreciated stock they donate.
What are the benefits of a stock donation?
- Deduct the current fair market value as a charitable donation.
- Donation & deduction are greater than if you sell shares and donate the after-tax cash proceeds.
- Reduce your taxes as the long-term capital gain is excluded from taxable income.
For more detailed information about Gifts of Stock, please consult a financial or tax advisor or an accountant who can help you determine the appropriateness for your tax planning.
When you are ready to send your gift of stock, please follow these stock gift instructions to help us credit your gift properly.
Charitable IRA Rollover:
If you are aged 70 ½ or older, you may benefit from making a Qualified Charitable Distribution by gifting some or all of your required minimum distribution from your IRA to Scranton Library.
Donor-Advised Funds:
Gifts from Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) accounts are a simple, tax-smart investment solution for charitable giving. It is very simple to recommend a gift from your DAF to Scranton Library.
Gifts in Kind:
Scranton Library accepts donations of goods and services from businesses, organizations, and individuals in the course of its fundraising activities. In-kind donations serve the important purpose of lowering fundraising expenses, which allows for larger donations to the Library.
The Library makes the final decision on the acceptance, use, or disposition of the goods or services received for its fundraising activities.
Corporate Matching:
The Library is eligible for corporate matching gifts. Companies have different means of submitting matching gift information. The most common way is to ask your Human Resources department for a matching gift form. Once you complete the employee portion of the form, send it to us and we’ll do the rest!
