New Library Cards
We do not have an age requirement for children to get their library cards. Any time a parent wishes a card they can receive one for their child. Most people wait until age 4 or 5 but this is totally up to the parent.
Children do not have to be able to write their name to receive their card. The only requirement for a child to receive their card is that they be a Madison resident and have a parent sign the registration form.
We want the process of receiving a new library card to be a fun and friendly experience. We allow the children to decorate their cards with several stickers while we create their registration on the computer.
We also take the child’s picture to display in the Children’s Department with parental approval. We display these pictures without names attached.
Many children are proud when they receive their first library card and invite other family members into the library to view their photo.
Lost Library Cards
The replacement fee for a lost library card is one dollar.
