2009 Book Sale

The Friends of the Scranton Library are very happy to thank the many people who worked so hard to make the eleventh annual Used Book Sale a great success. Money earned from the sale will be used to support Library programs for all ages.  Donations are also made to operating expenses and the Millennium Fund.

Leftover books are donated to the Women’s Prison at Niantic, Read to Grow, and Madison Social Services.  Connie and Michael Piccione also chose books to be sent to soldiers overseas. All other remainders have been sold to Pro Quo Books, adding to our total profit.

We are grateful to the Superintendent of Schools, David Klein, for allowing the Friends to use Academy School for the sale.  Thanks also to Bill McMinn, Director of Facilities, and to our cheerful custodian, Ken Martin.

Special thanks go to Carol Robinson, Chairman of the Used Book Sale, who did a tremendous job of organizing the sale.  A very generous anonymous donation of twenty tables was especially helpful.

An astounding number of  one hundred fifty-two people worked to make the sale a success. From young people to seniors,  all ages cooperated in sorting  and setting up books for months, keeping books in order during the sale, acting as cashiers, and cleaning up after the sale. In addition, a Library Board member was on hand to discuss any questions shoppers might have about the Library expansion.

A boatload of thanks to all of the above, and also to those people who donated books, and to those who came and bought books. All of you made a successful Used Book Sale possible.
