The Proposed Expansion Program

The Need

 

  • These are the principal features of the Library expansion proposal:

    • Restore the existing Historic Building designed by Henry Bacon
      (architect of Washington’s Lincoln Memorial)

    • Expand the library to meet State guidelines - to a total of 41,000 square feet

    • Construct 59 parking spaces (there are 0 currently)

    • Drive-up book drop and pick-up

    • “Green” features such as geothermal heating and air conditioning and natural lighting

    • Bring the building into ADA and safety code compliance

    • Double the size of the children’s area – last updated in 1965

    • Sub-dividable program center that can accommodate 2 simultaneous programs with up to 100 participants each, or opened up into a larger space that can comfortably seat up to 250 people

    • Space for 30 or more public access computers

    • Additional quiet reading, study, and meeting spaces

    • Basement for future expansion and volunteer fund-raising activities

    • The expansion will be built on adjacent land previously acquired by the Library with privately raised funds

    • Numerous efficient operational improvements such as self check-out
